Did Tesla Beat Q3 2026 Delivery Estimates? Yes, by 24,558 Cars
Tesla said on X on Oct. 2 that it built 464,391 vehicles, delivered 486,532 and deployed 13.7 GWh of energy storage in Q3 2026. Deliveries beat the analyst average Tesla published, but storage and the “other models” line came in under forecasts.
Did Tesla beat Wall Street’s Q3 2026 delivery estimates? Yes. Tesla’s post reports 486,532 deliveries, which is 24,558 (5.3%) above the 461,974 average in the company-compiled analyst consensus it released Sept. 29. It is still 2.1% below the record 497,099 Tesla delivered in Q3 2025, and 13.7 GWh of storage fell short of the 15.9 GWh analysts expected.
What Tesla posted
The @Tesla post is a text post with a link to Tesla’s investor relations site. It has no video or chart. It lists three numbers for Q3 2026:
- Production: 464,391 vehicles
- Deliveries: 486,532 vehicles
- Energy storage deployments: 13.7 GWh
It adds: “Our Q3 Company Update will be streamed live on X on October 21 at 4:30pm CT.” Tesla’s Business Wire release splits the vehicle totals into two groups:
- Model 3 and Model Y: 457,387 built and 478,237 delivered
- Other models: 7,004 built and 8,295 delivered
Tesla says operating lease accounting applies to 1% of Model 3 and Model Y deliveries and 4% of other-model deliveries. CNBC notes the Model 3 and Model Y made up about 98% of deliveries and that Tesla does not report deliveries by region.
How the numbers compare
Here is how 486,532 deliveries stack up:
- Versus the consensus: 24,558 above Tesla’s 461,974 average, which came from 24 analysts.
- Versus Q2 2026: 6,406 (1.3%) above the 480,126 Tesla delivered.
- Versus Q3 2025: 10,567 (2.1%) below the 497,099 Tesla delivered.
- Versus production: 22,141 more cars delivered than built, after 28,368 more in Q2.
- Year to date: 1,324,681 deliveries through three quarters, up 8.8% from 1,217,902 a year ago. That is 91,038 (7.4%) above the 1,233,643 you get by adding Tesla’s three quarterly consensus averages (365,645, 406,024 and 461,974). Q1 missed its average by 7,622; Q2 and Q3 beat theirs by 74,102 and 24,558.
The year-ago comparison is hard. Q3 2025 was a record, helped by U.S. buyers who rushed to buy before the $7,500 federal EV tax credit ended on Sept. 30, 2025, CNBC reported at the time. The figures are global, so the change cannot be read as a U.S. tax-credit effect alone. Tesla built 464,391 vehicles in Q3 2026, up from 447,450 in Q3 2025.

Model 3 and Model Y vs. other models
The Model 3 and Model Y did the work. They delivered 478,237, against an expected 450,712 and 0.6% fewer than the 481,166 a year earlier. The “other models” line, which includes the Cybertruck, delivered 8,295. That is below the 11,285 analysts expected, the 12,364 in Q2 and the 15,933 in Q3 2025, according to EV.
Tesla does not report the Cybertruck, Model S or Model X separately, so the 8,295 cannot be split. Tesla has not said why that line fell. Drive Tesla Canada reported in August that Tesla ended Model S and Model X production this summer.
Energy storage
Tesla deployed 13.7 GWh of storage in Q3 2026. That is up 1.5% from 13.5 GWh in Q2 and up 9.6% from 12.5 GWh a year earlier. It is 2.2 GWh under the 15.9 GWh average of 19 analysts, and below the record 14.2 GWh from Q4 2025, EV reports. CNBC says the total covers Megapack and Megablock systems.
What to watch
- Mark Oct. 21 for Tesla’s Q3 update, which Tesla says streams live on X at 4:30 p.m. CT (5:30 p.m. ET).
- Check your delivery estimate in your Tesla account if you have an open order, because Teslarati reported on Sept. 29 that U.S. estimates for many new Teslas had slid into late 2026 and early 2027.
- Wait for the Oct. 21 financials before reading profit into this number, because Tesla says deliveries “should not be relied on as an indicator of quarterly financial results.”
