Tesla’s Q3 2026 update, released Oct. 21, says FSD (Supervised) reached an attach rate of over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in North America, up nearly 20 percentage points from Q2. On the earnings call, Tesla’s CFO said that means a sign-up for a paid FSD (Supervised) subscription at the time of delivery, even though every new car comes with a free month.

Are 75% of new Teslas getting FSD (Supervised)? In North America, at delivery, Tesla says yes. Tesla’s Third Quarter 2026 Update, filed with the SEC on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2026, says the FSD (Supervised) attach rate reached “over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in North America,” a “nearly twenty percentage point sequential increase” from the second quarter. On the call, CFO Vaibhav Taneja defined it more narrowly: over 75% of North American deliveries “included a sign-up for paid FSD subscription at the time of delivery.” It is a share of new deliveries in one region in one quarter, not a share of the whole fleet, and Tesla has not published how many of those buyers keep paying.

Key facts

These are the figures Tesla reported for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026:

  • Over 75% of new North American deliveries had FSD (Supervised) attached in Q3, according to Tesla’s update.
  • That is up nearly 20 percentage points from Q2, according to the same update.
  • Active FSD (Supervised) subscriptions reached 1.74 million, up 67% from 1.04 million a year earlier.
  • Tesla’s count of active subscriptions includes upfront purchases and monthly subscriptions and excludes free trials, according to the update’s footnote.
  • Taneja said about half of the paid FSD (Supervised) customers are now on subscriptions, for the first time.
  • Tesla delivered 486,532 vehicles in Q3 worldwide and did not say how many were in North America.

What the 75% does and does not mean

Tesla used three slightly different wordings for the same number. The update’s summary calls it an “attach rate.” Its FSD (Supervised) section says “over 75% of new deliveries including FSD subscriptions.” Tesla’s own X post called it “FSD Supervised attach rate grew to over 75% of new vehicle deliveries in NA.” Taneja then added the detail that matters most to owners:

“When I say in North America that 75% attach rate at the time of delivery, this is every car which we’re delivering comes with a month of free FSD subscription. Still, people are signing up even though they have that free available.”

So the 75% counts paid sign-ups made at delivery. It does not tell you how many of those buyers are still paying 90 days later. Taneja said Tesla will share churn and other FSD (Supervised) metrics later, not now. One analyst on the call, from RBC, said his own math put the North American paid attach rate at 30% to 40%, and Tesla did not give a competing figure. Treat the 75% as a sign-up rate at the moment of delivery, not proof that three in four new owners pay long term.

The 20-point jump also needs care. The update says “percentage point.” On the call, Taneja said “approximately 20% higher than Q2,” which is a different measure. We used the update’s wording. Tesla did not publish the Q2 rate itself.

It is also not autonomy. Tesla’s own footnote says FSD (Supervised) requires active driver supervision and does not make the vehicle autonomous.

What new Tesla owners in North America should do

If you are taking delivery soon, here is what to check:

  1. Ask at delivery whether you are signing up for a paid FSD (Supervised) subscription or only getting the included free month, because Tesla counts the paid sign-up.
  2. Note the date your free month ends, because a paid subscription starts billing after that.
  3. Decide during the free month whether you will use it enough to pay, because Tesla has not published how many buyers cancel.
  4. Keep your hands ready and your eyes on the road every time it is engaged, because FSD (Supervised) does not make the car autonomous.

Answers

Do 75% of new Teslas come with FSD (Supervised)?

In North America, over 75% of Q3 2026 deliveries included a sign-up for paid FSD (Supervised) at the time of delivery, according to Tesla. That is not a worldwide figure and not a fleet figure.

Is the 75% purchases or subscriptions?

Tesla’s update says “FSD subscriptions,” and its CFO said it means a sign-up for a paid FSD (Supervised) subscription at delivery. Tesla did not split North American purchases from subscriptions.

Does the free month count toward the 75%?

Not according to Taneja. He said every new car gets a free month and buyers still sign up for paid FSD (Supervised) at delivery. Tesla’s 1.74 million subscription count also excludes free trials.

How many people pay for FSD (Supervised)?

1.74 million active subscriptions worldwide at the end of Q3 2026, up 67% from a year earlier, according to Tesla. That figure includes upfront purchases and monthly plans.

How much does FSD (Supervised) cost?

CNBC reported that Tesla sells it for $99 a month in the U.S. Check your own order or account, because Tesla’s price can change.

Does Tesla say how many owners cancel?

No. Taneja said Tesla will share churn and other FSD (Supervised) metrics later.
